Taxpayers Affected by Hurricane Matthew

The Illinois Department of Revenue will waive penalties and interest for taxpayers who cannot file or pay on time as a result of Hurricane Matthew which occurred in October 2016.

What do I need to do?
Send a brief written explanation of why you cannot file or pay on time, and be sure to clearly indicate a request for abatement of penalties and interest. Include your name, account number (if using a Social Security number, include only the last four digits), mailing address, and an estimate of when you believe you can file or pay. You can send this request electronically to: REV.DisasterRelief@illinois.gov or attach your letter to your return, write “Hurricane Matthew” on the top of the return, and mail to the address on the return.
